Metropolitan of Volokolamsk meets with newly-elected primate of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church

On 24th February the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony during his visit to India met with the Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly Raphael Thattil, who on 9th January was elected primate of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

On 23rd and 24th February as part of his official visit to India the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony attended festivities on the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of the death of the much-venerated by Indian Christians Saint Geevarghese Mar Dionysius of Vattasseril and the adoption of the Statute of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church after the proclamation of its autocephaly.

Metropolitan Anthony speaks at the session of the Synod of the Church of India

On 23rd February at the invitation of the Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony, in his capacity as guest of honour, attended the session of the Holy Synod of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which was held in the Synodal Hall of the residence of the Malankara Catholicos in Kottayam.

On 22nd of February, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and at the invitation of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, arrived in India.

On February 8, Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – counsellors for culture and education Hojjat ul-Islam Meysam Amroudi and Dr. Yousef Nouri, who were accompanied by representatives of Iran’s Cultural Representation in Russia, including its head Mr Masoud Ahmadvand.

Round table on Orthodoxy in China takes place as part of the Nativity Readings

On 23rd January as part of the XXXII International Nativity Readings a round table was held at the pilgrimage centre of the Moscow Patriarchate entitled “The Traditions of Orthodox in China: Losses and Gains of the Past and the Image of the Future”. The organizers of the round table were the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and the metochion of the Chinese Orthodox Church in Moscow.

DECR representative attends conference dedicated to Catholicos Nerses Shnorali

On December 21, an academic conference was held at the Armenian church complex under the chairmanship of Archbishop Ezras Nersissian, head of the Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan. The conference was dedicated to the personality and heritage of His Holiness Nerses IV Shnorhali the Gracious (c. 1100 - 1173), Catholicos of the Armenian Church, a prominent theologian, philosopher, hymnographer, poet and chronicler, a saint of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
